Clemson University’s football team won the National Championship… and on Monday, they got to share a White House feast with President Trump.
On the menu? Burgers from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King, and pizzas from Domino’s.
“The Clemson championship team, the national championship team will be coming tonight, it’ll be exciting,” said the notoriously fast food-loving Trump, when speaking to reporters. “And I think we’re going to serve McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King with some pizza.”
Reporters seemed to think Trump was joking, but Trump doubled-down.
“I really mean it,” he added. “It’ll be interesting. And I would think that’s their favorite food.”
True to his word, when the Clemson football team arrived at the White House, there was a fast food feast awaiting them–with a long table ladened with Big Macs, Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, Whoopers, and Quarter Pounders.
Trump cited the government shutdown, which has cost the White House most of its catering staff, as the reason for the unorthodox meal.
Also because of the shut down, Trump paid for the food himself–allegedly consisting of over 1,000 hamburgers.
