A top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee revealed a sinister plan to take down Judge Brett Kavanaugh… if Democrats win back the House of Representatives in November.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler said the House would launch its own investigation into Kavanaugh–who would, by then, likely be on the Supreme Court–if it felt that the Senate hadn’t done a thorough enough job.
“If he is on the Supreme Court and the Senate hasn’t investigated, then the House will have to,” Nadler said, while being interviewed by ABC. “We would have to investigate any credible allegation, certainly of perjury and other things that haven’t been properly looked into before.”
The House of Representatives has no constitutional role in the appointment or confirmation of federal judges, including Supreme Court Justices. But it does have the ability to impeach political leaders–meaning that they would have the ability to impeach Kavanaugh.
Nadler isn’t a back-bench member of Congress: if the Democrats win in November, he’s expected to become the chairman of the Judiciary Committee–suggesting that he would have the authority to make good on his threats.
Kavanaugh is currently undergoing a short FBI investigation over the allegations. A vote to confirm him is expected after the FBI reveals their findings.
