House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) just announced a new investigation into President Donald Trump… about his response to Coronavirus.
The craziest part? The chair of the new committee will be House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.)… a top Biden backer whose endorsement before the South Carolina primary is largely considered the reason Joe Biden is the likely Democratic nominee.
On a conference call, Pelosi told reporters that the immediate focus will be on “the here and now” about Coronavirus.
But once the pandemic is in the rearview mirror, they would begin investigating President Trump’s initial response to the crisis.
Pelosi explained that the committee will “have an expert staff and the committee will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal response to coronavirus and to ensure that the taxpayers’ dollars are being wisely and efficiently spent to save lives, deliver relief, and benefit our economy.”
They’ll also have subpoena power, much like the House’s Ukraine investigation, which resulted in the impeachment and acquittal of President Trump in February.
Despite Pelosi’s plans to, apparently, drag Trump through the mud with yet another partisan investigation, Americans view the crisis differently.
According to today’s poll from the Economist, 50 percent of Americans believe Trump is handling the crisis well. Just 46 percent do not.
