Is Paris Going To Build A Wall Too?

wall

Out of all the policies that Trump has proposed, his wall on the southern border is the one that has been met with the most resistance, but officials in Paris think a wall might be a good idea.

Officials in Paris have decided to build a wall around the world-famous Eiffel Tower.

The wall will replace metal fences that were set up during a soccer tournament last year.

According to the proposed plans, the iconic building will have an 8-foot bulletproof glass wall built around base of the building.

“We will replace the metal grids to the north and south with glass panels which will allow Parisians and visitors a very pleasant view of the monument,” said Jean-Francois Martis who is the assistant mayor for tourism in Paris.

When asked b y BBC reporters about the reasons behind the new wall, the assistant mayor said the main threat is terrorism.

“The terror threat remains high in Paris and the most vulnerable sites, led by the Eiffel Tower, must be the object of special security measures. We have three aims to improve the look, make access easier and strengthen the protection of visitors and staff.”

The projected cost for building the bulletproof wall is around $21 million.

Each year, over six million people visit the site and the Eiffel Tower remains one of the most visited places in Europe.

There have been terror threats against the tower in the past, and a wall does seem like a better solution than the temporary fences that currently border the property.

The next step is for the proposal to be voted on by the city’s sites commission. The plan is currently still in the planning and approval phase and no specific timetable has been set for the project yet.
