Don’t Mess With Texas: Armed Mother Saves Her Children From Highjacker

There’s a reason why they say “don’t mess with Texas.”

A mother in Texas recently shot a man in the head as he tried to drive off in her SUV –with her two young sons still in the back.

It was an ordinary Wednesday night in Dallas when a carjacker named Ricky Wright pulled open the driver’s side door of an SUV that was stopped at a gas station. Wright started up the car and began to pull away, when the car’s owner jumped back into the car.

The mother of two told Wright to stop driving. He refused.

So she reached into her glove box, pulled out her handgun, and shot the dumb bastard in the head.

When interviewed by CBS Dallas, the mother sent a good ol’ fashioned Texas death threat to the man who tried to drive off with her kids: “I wish I would’ve killed you, if I didn’t already.”

When describing the incident, she told reporters that Wright entered her car as she was in the convenience store at the gas station. An employee told her that a man had entered her vehicle, so she ran back out to the SUV.

“I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out of the car,” she told reporters. “He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me. I reached over the arm rest to get to my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him. I should have just emptied the whole clip but I didn’t.”

She finished by saying “I hope that woke him up.”

And it undoubtedly did. Or rather, it put him right to sleep.

Because right after being shot in the head, Ricky Wright, the would-be car thief, crashed the stolen SUV into a lamp post. When cops arrived they promptly arrested him, and then took him to the hospital. Police say he was in stable but serious condition (being shot in the head will have that effect on a person), but the mother and her 2 and 4 year old sons were unharmed.

In Texas you have to assume everybody’s armed and dangerous. Even moms who are busy getting a cup of gas-station coffee.

It’s a rule of life everywhere. Don’t get between a momma bear and her cubs. Especially when that momma bear has a Glock in her glovebox and the presence of mind to aim for the head.
