Nancy Pelosi and her House Democrats unveiled their latest coronavirus relief bill… and it’s a doozy.
The bill, which is estimated to cost $3 trillion, includes a long laundry list of liberal pipe dreams–some of which have nothing to do with coronavirus.
Of the $3 trillion, roughly $1 trillion would go to bail out state, local, and tribal governments.
Some governments have seen tax revenues dry up because of long economic lockdowns, which have starved governments of sales tax–while others, like Illinois, are hoping for a federal bailout of run-of-the-mill mismanagement, like their broken pension system.
The other $2 trillion would involve giveaways to the American people, including student loan forgiveness and rent and mortgage relief.
But the bill also forces some liberal pipe dreams–including a $25 billion bailout of the U.S. Postal Service, as well as forcing states to allow mail-in voting in the November presidential election.
gopIf the bill passes, it would be the most expensive bill ever to pass–topping the $2.2 trillion CARES Act that was passed just six weeks ago.
But it’s unclear if the bill even stands a chance of passing: a number of Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have balked at another round of record-shattering spending.
