Chelsea Clinton wished a festive “Happy New Year!” over Twitter to one very surprising group: the Church of Satan.
The holiday cheer came during a Twitter conversation between Chelsea Clinton and supermodel Chrissy Teigen. Another user replied to both Clinton and Teigen—also tagging the Hooters restaurant chain.
Clinton found it amusing that she now suddenly found herself on a reply chain with the sexy wing joint, tweeting to Teigen: “In 2017, @ChurchofSatan & I were put on a few threads together. In 2018, it’s… @Hooters. What a time to be alive Chrissy!”
Because Clinton tagged the Church of Satan, they quickly responded to her, agreeing that they were thrilled to be on a chain with the one-time First Daughter: “The never ending excitement here is never ending.”
Clinton greeted the satanic cult warmly, replying back: “It’s been so long! Happy New Year!”
The Satanists responded with a dose of sunny optimism: “Same to you, here’s to a great 2018!”
The curious, ridiculous Twitter thread began as a spat between Teigen and a Twitter user called “Liz the Tornado,” who accused Tiger of child abuse and pedophilia. Chelsea Clinton leaped to Teigen’s defense, offering her a “huge hug” and commiserating about angry Twitter users.
During their back-and-forth, another user, named “Bev,” replied to Clinton and Teigen, adding in Hooters—where, apparently, she believed “Liz the Tornado” was an employee.
Hooters replied with a quick statement claiming that Liz did not “have any relation to our company”—but the restaurant’s presence on the thread leading to surprise from both Teigen and Clinton.
Clinton, noting how ridiculous the Twitter thread was becoming, then tagged the Church of Satan to wish them a very happy holiday season—and the rest is, well, Twitter history.
