Black liberals are flipping out over Kanye West’s newly-proclaimed pro-Trump conservatism… and it’s getting ugly.
On Monday, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), one of the most prominent African-Americans in Congress due to her fiery anti-Trump screeds, ripped West for his comments–telling him to sit down and shut up.
“Kanye West is a very creative young man,” said Waters, to Politico. “But we also think that sometimes West talks out of turn and perhaps he needs some assistance in helping him to formulate some of his thoughts. We don’t think that he actually means to do harm, but we’re not sure he really understands the impact of what he’s saying, at the time that he’s saying it and how that weighs on, particularly the African-American community – and for young people in general.”
“I understand that he is getting pushback from a lot of young people on the internet,” she added, “but we’re hopeful that his creativity will continue to be demonstrated in his work. And I think maybe he should think twice about politics – and maybe not have so much to say.”
Waters, who has attracted attention as a liberal darling nicknamed “Aunt Maxine,” has a long history of uninformed comments–which makes her belittling of Kanye West’s comments all the more laughable. Waters was also named one of the most corrupt members of Congress in 2010.
West ignited a wave of backlash from the left–and praise from conservatives–last week when he tweeted his “love” for President Trump and posted a picture of himself wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat.
“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy,” West tweeted last week. “He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”
