Joe Biden shocked the American public after a racist rant, during a contentious radio interview.
Biden was speaking to “The Breakfast Club”–a radio show with a predominantly African-American audience.
As the interview ended, Biden began quickly discussing his record with the black community.
He ended his list of accomplishments with a startling line:
“I tell you if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” said Biden.
Biden’s statement stunned social media. “The Breakfast Club” posted a poll on their Twitter account, soon after the interview aired, asking: “#joebiden said ‘If you have a problem figuring out if you are for him or Trump.. you ain’t black’ Do you agree?”
As of 2pm on Friday, the answer was a resounding no–with 89.1% of the poll’s 60,000 respondents saying they disagreed with the former Vice President’s racist statement.
On Twitter, President Trump’s campaign shared the clip–writing, “This is disgusting.”
Trump’s senior adviser Katrina Pierson went even further, calling the remarks “racist and dehumanizing” and adding that Biden believes black voters are “incapable of being independent of free-thinking.”
Pierson, who is black, continued: “He truly believes that he, a 77-year-old white man, should dictate how Black people should behave. Biden has a history of racial condescension and today he once again proved what a growing number of Black Americans and I have always known: Joe Biden does not deserve our votes.”
Biden’s own campaign later responded that the comments were made “in jest.”
