The National Border Patrol Council President, Brandon Judd, expressed that there has been a significant drop in illegal immigration due to President Trump’s immigration related policies that are in place.
Although Trump’s famous US-Mexico has not yet been built, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection notes that there been a significant reduction in the number of illegal immigrants making their way into the United States through the southwestern border.
It has been noted by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection that as of June they have experience a 53% reduction in the number of illegal immigration along the US-Mexico border, in comparison to June’16.
Judd stated that it is “miraculous” seeing that Trump administration has “caused the number of illegal border crosses to go down.”
“What we’ve seen is nothing short of miraculous,” Judd said on C-SPAN. “If you look at the rhetoric that President Trump has given, it’s caused the number of illegal border crossers to go down, something that we’ve never seen in history at the Border Patrol.”
Comparing the progress with what it was during the Obama administration, Judd stated that during Obama’s administration illegal immigrants were given an easy pass. He noted as the Obama administration would release those caught and issue a court date. With 80 percent of those being released never retuning back, many of the illegal immigrants would actually hand over themselves to law enforcement officers, and never return back once they were released with a court date.
“When you hear the Obama administration say we have to bring these people out of the shadows, what they were doing was actually going into the shadows instead of coming out,” Judd said.
Trump administration on the other hand holds on those caught until their court fate and would present them with a chance to prove as to why they should be allowed to stay in the United States. The former administration almost as if “skipped” important measures in hopes that the illegal immigrants would actually show up on their court date.
“As far as the Trump administration’s efforts on immigration, this is something they campaigned heavily on,” he said. “At six months, where we are on meeting those promises, we are seeing nothing short of miraculous. If you look at the rhetoric that President Trump has given, it has caused a number of illegal border crossings to go down. We have never seen such a drop that we currently have,” he further added.
In an appearance on “Fox and Friends” Judd further highlighted that with President Trump’s plan to build a wall along the US-Mexico border has increased the agency’s morale. He stated that the agency has an “energy” like never before and is committed to help promote President Trump’s agenda of putting an end to illegal immigration.
“There’s a vibe, there’s an energy in the Border Patrol that’s never been there before,” Mr. Judd said.
“In the 20 years I’ve been in the patrol, we haven’t seen this type of energy, and we’re excited because we signed up to do a job and this president is allowing us to do that job.”
Judd believes that Trump as “a president has done a great job of actually enforcing the law — something we didn’t see in the last eight years,” and that And if we continue to do that, then a clear message will be sent throughout the world that if you cross our borders illegally, you will be detained and you will be sent back.”
“If you look at the rhetoric that the president sent out, we’ve had a drop that we’ve never seen before with any president,” he continued. “If you’re in the left, right or middle, you have to say this president has done exactly what he promised to do and we do have border security like what we expect to see,” he added.
