Trump’s border wall is on its way to getting funded… but not by the federal government.
Right now, the American people are stepping up to personally pay for a wall along the border.
More than 200 pages on GoFundMe are currently active, fundraising for the wall. Along with the website FundTheWall.com, nearly than $500,000 has been raised.
$500,000 is a far cry from the $5 billion Trump’s currently seeking from Congress to secure the border, but the fundraisers could find a larger audience: according to a poll from Rasmussen, the American people are very open to privately funding the wall.
Rasmussen reports that 21% of “Likely U.S. Voters” are willing to donate money to build a wall if Congress refuses to fund it. 10% are undecided.
The numbers are, predictably, broken down largely along party lines: 34% of Republicans say they would contribute to a private fund to build the wall, while just 10% of Democrats say they will.
With the White House and Congress facing off to keep the government open and fund the federal budget, Trump’s border wall might ultimately come down to the American people.
