This might be the biggest compliment a major conservative group could give any President of the United States.
The influential conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, gave what might be the biggest compliment they could give to a President of the United States.
They’ve declared President Trump more successful in his first year than conservative icon, President Ronald Reagan.
“There is so much noise in this town that I think it obscures the real work that’s being done,” said Kay Coles James, the new president of the Heritage Foundation. “This administration is doing quite well in terms of advancing a conservative agenda — clearly, quite well.”
The influential group based their review on how many Heritage-backed ideas President Trump embraced or implemented in his first year in office. They found that Trump adopted 64 percent of their ideas over the past year.
By contrast, President Reagan adopted just 49 percent of Heritage’s ideas in 1981, his first year in the Oval Office.
“So say what you will, I think the other side of the aisle would be salivating to find their version of a Donald Trump — someone who came in, kept their promises and did what they said they were going to do,” James added.
Heritage has long been a fountain of ideas for the conservative movement—and even as many Americans (including many conservatives) take offense at Trump’s personal style, it’s clear that he might go down in history as one of the most doctrinaire conservatives ever elected in modern American history.
