According to latest polls from Reuters and Ipsos, 73% of Republicans believe that the department of justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are actively trying to delegitimize President Donald Trump.
The latest poll reveals a shocking trend in the attitudes of Republicans. Traditionally, Republicans have been strong supporters of the agencies and organizations associated with law and order – of which the FBI and DOJ are preeminent. However, after the release of the secret Nunes Memo, detailing FBI corruption and partisanship, faith has been shaken.
Based on the memo’s revelations, the American public has learned that the FBI targeted candidate Trump, using sketchy surveillance procedures, leveraging information that they knew to be fake. However, they didn’t tell the FISA courts that their “evidence” was supplied by the Clinton campaign and Clinton’s operatives. Using planted “evidence” against a major presidential candidate, that was supplied by the opposing party – it’s amazing that Republicans still view the FBI as highly as they do, in this poll!
On the memo’s release President Donald Trump tweeted, “The four page memo released Friday reports the disturbing fact about how the FBI and FISA [appear to have been used to influence the 2016 election and its aftermath. The FBI failed to inform the [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA)] court that the Clinton campaign had funded the dossier … the FBI became a tool of anti-Trump political actors. This is unacceptable in a democracy and ought to alarm anyone who wants the FBI to be a nonpartisan enforcer of the law….The FBI wasn’t straight with Congress, as it hid most of these facts from investigators.”
