The most shocking part of one-time Olympic hero Bruce Jenner’s interview with Diane Sawyer wasn’t that he finally told the world (after months of speculation) he’s becoming a woman–but that he told the world he’s a Constitution-loving conservative Republican.
The interview mostly focused on Jenner, who shot to fame after he won a gold medal in the decathlon in the 1976 Olympics and gained more recent notoriety as the patriarch on the hit reality TV show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” But it briefly turned political:
“[Obama] actually was the first one to say the actual word transgendered,” Jenner told Sawyer. “I will certainly give him credit for that. But not to get political, I’ve just never been a big fan. I’m kind of more on the conservative side.”
When Sawyer asked if he was a Republican, Jenner replied: “Yeah. Is that a bad thing? I believe in the Constitution.”
Social media proceeded to explode.
Liberals, who just moments before had been praising Bruce Jenner for his courage, suddenly turned on him.
Here’s some random liberal musings from Twitter:
“Oh I can support Bruce Jenner’s sex change but a republican? Oh fuck that. That’s it shutting off this interview.”
“hi Bruce Jenner. you had me, until you said you were a republican. you’re a stupid fuck.”
“So any sympathy my mother had for Bruce Jenner evaporated once she heard he wasn’t a fan of President Obama.”
“#BruceJenner instantly takes away all goodwill by coming out as a ….Republican. Ew. They hate ladies, you’ll see….”
“Bruce Jenner had 110% percent of my support until he pulled that republican shit #thedisrespect”
Lovely.
Liberal America: where you can be anything you want to be, so long as its not a Republican.
