A new poll from Morning Consult shows Nike’s brand favorability plummeting among the American people, after a controversial ad campaign featuring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
According to the poll, brand favorability dropped a whopping 34 points.
Before the campaign, the company was seen as 76% favorable, 7% unfavorable-a net favorability of +69 points.
But now, the net favorability is just +35—60% favorable, 24% unfavorable.
The increased favorability in the athletic clothes giant could have a negative impact on sales: investors are also seeing in droves.
Yesterday, immediately after the stock market opened, Nike’s stock fell from $82.18 to $79.01. As of 9:30am Thursday morning, the stock has still not recovered the ground it lost.
