A majority of Democrats want to replace their presumptive presidential nominee, Joe Biden, with someone else.
That new blood? New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has received praise from the left for his response to coronavirus.
According to a new poll by WPAi, 56 percent of Democrats prefer Cuomo, to just 44 percent who prefer Biden.
Biden’s numbers are even worse among certain demographics: 58 percent of Hispanic voters prefer Cuomo to Biden, as well as 57 percent of women and 67 percent overs aged 25 to 34.
In fact, the only group of people surveyed where a majority want the Democrats to keep Biden… are Trump voters.
Joe Kildea, who commissioned the poll through his nonprofit Club for Growth, said that the surprising statistics should be a big red flag for Democrats.
“With every major news event, Democrats realize more and more how bad of a candidate Joe Biden is, and Democrats now preferring Cuomo is just another example,” Kildea said.
However, despite Cuomo’s surging popularity, it’s almost certainly too late to put him on the presidential ticket in any capacity. Biden is the sole remaining candidate in the Democratic primary–meaning that, when the Democrats meet for their convention this summer, the vast majority of delegates will be die-hard Biden supporters.
Further, previous promises from Biden would prevent Cuomo from joining the ticket even as his Vice President: at the most recent Democratic debate, Biden promised that he would select a woman to join his ticket.
