Government bans trans surgeries for kids

Good sense prevailed in the United Kingdom… after the government announced a ban on “gender confirmation” surgeries for kids under 18.

The U.K. Minister for Women and Equalities, Liz Truss, announced a plan to reform the 2004 “Gender Recognition Act,” which first allowed transgender people to switch genders.

One of them? Ending transgender surgeries for kids under 18, protecting them “from decisions that they could make, that are irreversible in the future.”

In addition to banning gender surgery, it also limits access to controversial “puberty blockers” and cross-sex hormones.

“I believe strongly that adults should have the freedom to lead their lives as they see fit,” said Truss, “but I think it’s very important that while people are still developing their decision-making capabilities that we protect them from making those irreversible decisions.”

“Of course some of these policies have been delayed, Chair, by the specific issues around Covid but I can assure you that alongside the Covid work, our officials continue to do those things to make them happen,” Truss added.

Truss’s comments sparked outrage from activists leftist activists–even as Truss asserted that she had no problem with transgender adults.

“I believe strongly that adults should have the freedom to lead their lives as they see fit, but I think it’s very important that while people are still developing their decision-making capabilities that we protect them from making those irreversible decisions,” Truss said.
