Facebook’s liberal bias is under attack from an unexpected group: their own employees.
In a post uploaded to Facebook’s internal message board, senior Facebook engineer Brian Amerige wrote, “We have a problem with political diversity.”
“We are a political monoculture that’s intolerant of different views,” he added. “We claim to welcome all perspectives, but are quick to attack — often in mobs — anyone who presents a view that appears to be in opposition to left-leaning ideology.”
“We are entrusted by a great part of the world to be impartial and transparent carriers of people’s stories, ideas and commentary,” Amerige continued. “Congress doesn’t think we can do this. The president doesn’t think we can do this. And like them or not, we deserve that criticism.”
Employees flocked to Amerige’s defense–with more than 100 Facebook employees joining Amerige in an online group called FB’ers for Political Diversity.
Their goal? Make sure ideological diversity is represented at the notoriously left-wing social media outlet.
The energized Facebook employees comes as social media–and internet companies at large–are under attack for a lockstep leftwing agenda.
Last year, Twitter was heavily criticized for “shadow-banning” conservative accounts. This week, President Trump also targeted search giant Google for allegedly suppressing conservative articles in their searches.
Regardless of the success of Amerige and his colleagues, it’s clear: the left-wing ideologies of Silicon Valley are officially under attack–and could result in a more ideologically diverse future.
