On Tuesday night, the national press crowded outside the house of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh… but they couldn’t have been more surprised by what Kavanaugh’s wife did in response.
Ashley Estes Kavanaugh gave them cupcakes.
“Per our CBS News cameraman at Kavanaugh’s house, his wife handed out cupcakes from Sprinkles to any of the photogs and producers who wanted them,” tweeted CBS’s Kathryn Wilson.
Kavanaugh, who seemed likely to be confirmed to the Supreme Court, has seen his appointment rocked by claims from a high school classmate that he had sexually assaulted her in 1982.
Christine Blasey Ford alleged that Kavanaugh held her down and tried to take off her swimsuit while at a party in suburban Maryland, back when the two were teenagers.
Ford, however, has been criticized for being unable to recall key details of what happened the night of her alleged assault. In addition, the other boy she claims witnessed the entire event claimed that it never happened.
Kavanaugh has also unequivocally denied that he had been sexually assaulted.
Ford has been invited to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee… but has refused to do so unless the FBI investigates first—something that could possibly derail Kavanaugh’s appointment in the run-up to the 2018 election.
