An anonymous Biden insider has leaked important information about Joe Biden’s Vice President pick: apparently, Stacey Abrams is off the short-list.
Abrams rocketed to fame during her 2018 run for governor of Georgia. Seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, she lost her race by 50,000.
Since then, Abrams has refused to concede the election–claiming that her victory was “stolen,” despite the wide margin of victory for then-Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
Abrams was also seen as a potential opponent to Republican Sen. David Purdue, who faces re-election this year, but she declined.
Instead, Abrams has spent most of her time trying to convince–even outright begging–Joe Biden to select her for Vice President.
That won’t happen, according to the Biden insider speaking to the New York Post.
“No one takes Stacey seriously. And her public campaigning for the job seems more like a hostage negotiation than an actual attempt to get the job,” the insider said. “Biden is an old school guy and will always be. Picking Stacey would be like picking [Sarah] Palin. He doesn’t need to throw a Hail Mary. He wants a good governing partner.”
The insider added that coronavirus has also made experience and leadership more important. Abrams has never won a competitive election, and her highest political job has been serving as Georgia’s state senate minority leader.
“Stacey isn’t ready on day one,” the insider added. “Even she knows that and it’s why she’s engaging in this dance. She might get perfunctorily better, but she’s not a serious pick for him. And her campaign is viewed as much as promotion for her book as it is for being chosen as Biden’s VP.”
