If the essence of comedy is the clever subversion of expectation... how is mocking Trump even comedic anymore? It's the only thing the MSM does!
Another day, another award ceremony that devolved into an anti-Trump hate fest: this time, the MTV Video Music Awards, which aired on Monday night.
Despite there being no official host, Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish served as de facto emcees–and almost immediately, the anti-Trump “jokes” began to fly.
While presenting the first trophy of the night, Hart made sure to reference the controversy over NFL players disrespecting the national anthem. Hart compared the VMAs to “game day,” but added:
“But at this game, you guys can kneel,” he said. “You can do whatever the hell you want. There’s no old white man that can stop you.”
Later, Hart landed a less subtle punch on Trump, saying: “You never know what’s going to happen at the VMAs. I mean, beefs pop off, bad language, people sending out crazy tweets. It’s basically like your typical day at the White House. In your face, Trump — suck it!”
In addition, rapper Logic performed his song, “One Day,” while wearing a t-shirt that read, “F**k the wall,” in apparent protest of President Trump’s immigration policy.
Behind him stood a number of children impacted by immigration issues, all wearing shirts that said, “We are human beings.”
Ratings have not yet been released for the VMAs–but based on the scathing reviews the show received from across social media and the mainstream media, one thing is likely: the American people are growing tired of the Hollywood hate fest.
