Air Force One will soon look a lot more patriotic.
President Donald Trump announced that the iconic presidential Boeing aircraft will be getting a new facelift, once new planes are delivered in coming years.
“Air Force One is going to be incredible,” said Trump. “It’s going to be top of the line, the top in the world, and it’s going to be red, white and blue, which I think is appropriate.”
The two planes that currently serve as Air Force One were acquired at the tail end of the Reagan Administration and are 31 years old.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that the new aircraft had been ordered through Boeing, for a price of $3.9 billion.
While that’s a hefty price tag, it’s far left than the $5.3 billion initially proposed–thanks to President Trump’s shrewd negotiating with Boeing earlier in his presidency.
Boeing plans to deliver two new aircrafts by 2024–just in time for the last year of President Trump’s second term, should he be re-elected in 2020.
