During President elect Trump’s first press conference, he took a few minutes to attack Buzz Feed and CNN for running and promoting a completely fake news story that was fabricated by users of the social platform 4Chan.
BuzzFeed ran a fake story about Trump being blackmailed by Russian officials because of lewd pictures with Trump and prostitutes. The story turns out to be a complete lie and the media fell for it.
While speaking about the incident during his press conference, the president elect called Buzzfeed a “failing piece of garbage”. He also went on to say CNN should apologize for building up the story.
When Trump finished his statement, questions came pouring in from the press members in attendance. Jim Accosta was clearly upset that Trump called out his news agency and begged to respond, but Trump shot him down.
“I’m not going to give you a question. I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news!”
Several people near Trump and in the press started clapping when Trump called CNN “fake news”.
See the exchange here.
It is clear that Trump isn’t a fan of CNN at all, and that doesn’t help the future of the network if they are not allowed access to the White House.
Obama granted BuzzFeed their White House press credentials, and those are almost certainly going to be removed when Trump becomes president.
It would be shocking, yet understandable if Trump pulled CNN’s credentials too after the way they have treated him during the election and since he won.
Maybe they should start verifying stories before they publish them. What do you think? Does CNN run fake news stories? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
