Trump Administration is keeping the pressure on North Korea, even as the brutal nation has taken a bizarre spotlight during the Olympic ceremonies. Despite this strategy, Vice President Pence has signaled willingness to engage in talks, to disarm the regime.
Mainstream Media outlets took notice of the unprecedented appearance ofr Kim Jung Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong at the Winter Olympics. Some further reports go as far as to claim Pence’s presence at the Olympics to be a strong signal for a new willingness found in Americans to sit down yet again for talks with North Korea.
However, senior U.S. officials who are familiar with the situation clarified that Pence’s trip to the Olympics was meant to serve as a counter to the North Korean’s massive propaganda machine and that media reports which are indicating otherwise have simply provided a boost to the rogue nation’s image at a time when they are aggressively pursuing their nuclear weapons program.
“With its fawning coverage of Kim Yo Jong and the Kim regime, much of the U.S. media has unintentionally become complicit in North Korea’s charm offensive,” said a senior administration official who had expressed shock over the recent pro-Nork Korean coverage by the Mainstream Media.
“The U.S. is in no way easing up pressure on the regime,” the official continued. “And unlike much of the mainstream media, the Trump administration is not falling for North Korea’s transparent propaganda. The [vice president and president] will continue to apply maximum pressure and keep all means necessary on the table to denuclearize the Korean peninsula.”
