After incredible allegations of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church surfaced over the summer, the Pope remained relatively quiet until recently when he spoke about the “fashionable” homosexuality.
The cases and allegations of sexual abuse against priests and the Catholic Church are mounting up.
A group of Roman Catholic bishops met in Baltimore in November to vote on how to take action against the sexual abuse scandals that are plaguing the church. They left without taking action due to the Vatican ordering the group to delay voting.
The Pope finally spoke out this week regarding a “serious issue” in the Catholic Church, but instead of targeting pedophilia and predator priests, he directly called out homosexuals in the book, The Strength of Vocation, released in Italy over the weekend.
Pope Francis said, “The issue of homosexuality is a very serious issue that must be adequately discerned from the beginning with the candidates. In our societies it even seems that homosexuality is fashionable and that mentality, in some way, also influences the life of the church.”
He went on to say that the Church must “urge homosexual priests, and men and women religious, to live celibacy with integrity, and above all, that they be impeccably responsible, trying to never scandalize either their communities or the faithful holy people of God.”
The Vatican has yet to have a strong response to the abundant cases of sexual assault against the church and many are finding it strange that the Pope would have such a strong response to homosexuality.

At this point, it seems the Pope is doing more damage than good. Without a direct response to the incredible amount of sexual assault claims levied against the church, fewer and fewer people are going to take the Pope and the Catholic Church seriously.
