Looks like Superman has joined the anti-Trump “Resistance.”
This week, Action Comics released their latest issue. Titled, “The Oz Effect,” the comic book depicts Superman coming to the aide of a group of illegal immigrants, and fighting off a “white supremacist” attacker.
The group of illegal aliens are being attacked by a middle-aged white man with an American flag bandana. The white man is, apparently, mad that illegal aliens stole his job—so he’s coming after them with a machine gun.
“Stop this!” Superman tells the gunman, as he blocks the bullets with his body.
The crazed, American flag-wearing white man, instead, replies, “They ruined me! Stole from me!”
Superman grabs the gunman, and replies, “The only person responsible for the blackness smothering your soul… is you!”
Superman then hands over the gunman to police, and orders officers to make sure the victims are “safe and cared for,” before departing.
The “woke” comic comes as President Donald Trump has put U.S. immigration law on the front of the national dialogue. Most notably, the comic was released just days after President Trump announced that he would roll back Barack Obama’s executive order for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
However, Superman may have been premature in taking such a bold (and unsubtle) political stance: this week, reports have claimed that President Trump is finalizing a plan with Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) to preserve DACA and reform America’s immigration system.
