Now that Justice Anthony Kennedy is retiring, leftist women are calling for a “sex strike” to protect Roe v. Wade from being overturned.
Jennifer Wright, editor of Harper’s Bazaar, took to Twitter to drum up support for this latest “cause,” writing:
“We’re very likely to lose Roe Vs. Wade. Some men may think that doesn’t concern them. Make it,” wrote Wright. “If you’re single and dating, add a [female judge] emoji to your dating profiles to show people you won’t date/sleep with anyone who doesn’t support a woman’s right to choose.”
Ironically, one of President Trump’s finalists for the Supreme Court vacancy is Judge Amy Coney Barrett of Indiana—a pro-life Catholic mom of seven. One assumes that Wright would be less than thrilled if Coney Barrett was the woman responsible for the 5-4 conservative majority.
Despite that, Wright continued to push the issue on Twitter, adding: “Sex strikes like these have proven surprisingly effective at creating political change through history,” and posting a link to other historic “sex strikes.”
Wright included the hashtag “#Lysistrata,” a reference to an Ancient Greek play where women withheld sex to end the Peloponnesian War.
Wright’s call for abstinence was praised by other leftist women, who urged support. It’s unclear whether this “sex strike” will ever gain widespread support or actually change anyone’s mind.
