Two of Hollywood’s most prominent #MeToo champions have turned on each other… over new claims that Joe Biden sexually assaulted intern Tara Reade in 1993.
Actress Alyssa Milano, who was one of the loudest voices backing sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford during Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, had endorsed Biden for President before the allegations came forward.
But after standing by her man, she was eviscerated on Twitter for partisan hypocrisy by her former “Charmed” costar–and fellow Hollywood #MeToo activist–Rose McGowan.
The dustup came after Milano gave a tortured explanation of why she was still supporting Biden–even though, by the standards she employed against conservatives, she shouldn’t.
“I’ve been very vocal about Biden and my support for him, I’ve known him for a long time, and I did do my due diligence,” she said. “I just don’t feel comfortable throwing away a decent man that I’ve known for 15 years in this time of complete chaos without there being a thorough investigation. I’m sure that the mainstream media would be jumping all over this as well if they found more evidence through their investigating. So I’m just sort of staying quiet about it.”
As for whether Americans should “believe women”–the popular phrase Milano helped publicize during the Kavanaugh hearings? A very, very labored “maybe” from Milano.
“I believe that even though we should believe women and that is an important thing,” she said. But, she added, “that does not mean at the expense of not giving men their due process and investigating situations and it’s gotta be fair in both directions.”
That didn’t sit right with McGowan–who went in for the kill:
“You are a fraud,” McGowan snapped at Milano, via Twitter. “This is about holding the media accountable. You go after Trump & Kavanaugh saying Believe Victims, you are a lie. You have always been a lie. The corrupt DNC is in on the smear job of Tara Reade, so are you. SHAME.”
The Biden campaign has denied Reade’s accusations.
