Leftists are eating their own over transgenderism—starting with top comedian Dave Chapelle.
On Monday, Chapelle kicked off a 16-show residency at New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall—and, after his show included a segment where he made jokes about President Trump and his ban on transgenders serving in the military, he attracted the ire of the left.
Jesse David Fox of the liberal culture news site, Vulture, called it an “unsuccessful” attempt to take on the left’s favorite hot button issue of the day.
Fox wrote: “For about the first 20 minutes of his set, Chappelle almost exclusively talked about trans issues… He started by talking about how he was ‘shocked!’ by Trump’s ban on transgender officers in the military, because he didn’t realize there were any trans people in the military.”
Chapelle dropped his punchline: “Sounds like a secret weapon to me… If I was in ISIS in the trenches fighting against the United States and all of the sudden I see a man with a beard and big D-cups t*tties just rushing my foxhole and sh*t, I’d be horrified.”
Fox promptly scolded Chapelle for an “out of touch” joke that didn’t toe the line of liberal political correctness: “That joke and others in this section suffer from the same problems as those from his specials — they are rooted in disgust and generalization. They’re just not good.”
Fox also took offense at another joke, regarding transgender Olympian Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner.
Chapelle said: “I read in the paper that Caitlyn Jenner was contemplating posing nude in an upcoming issue of Sports Illustrated. And I knew it was politically incorrect to say, so I figured I’d just say it for everybody — yuck. F**k, man, I just want to read some stats, like why are you cramming man-p***y in the middle of the sports page like that?”
Fox wasn’t the only one to pearl-clutch at a comedy show: feminist website Jezebel described Chapelle’s show as “out-of-touch work from an old, grouchy man—and one who seems to have no concept about the epidemic of murders inflicted on the [transgender] population he feels comfortable enough commenting on repeatedly and at length… What a god d*mn disappointment.”
When even liberal comedians, like Dave Chapelle—a black comedian who spent his career taking a sledgehammer to preconceptions about race relations—run afoul of the liberal censors, it may be time to the left to step back… and learn to take a joke.
