Authorities have arrested two men, including one illegal immigrant, for brutally killing a 13-year-old special needs girl… after she witnessed her grandmother caught up in a drug deal gone bad.
Mariah Lopez, 13, and her grandmother, Oralia Mendoza, 49, were both found brutally murdered in a Georgia cemetery last month.
Police have arrested Israel Palomino, 34, and Yoni Aguilar, 26, and charged them with capital murder in connection with the crime.
While Palomino is in the United States on a green card, Aguilar is in the country illegally. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has already lodged a detainer request.
According to investigator Stacy Rutherford, Mendoza took Lopez to the scene, along with three others, to buy methamphetamines. Somehow, Palomino became suspicious that the drug deal was a setup and kidnapped Lopez and Mendoza.
Despite assuring them that they would be taken somewhere safe, Palomino and Aguilar drove Mendoza and Lopez to a nearby cemetery, where they argued about the drug deal.
Palomino stabbed Mendoza to death–and, rather than leave Lopez alive as a witness, Aguilar was ordered to behead the thirteen-year-old girl.
If convicted, Agular and Palomino could face the death penalty.
