Riots, looting, and arson consuming much of Minneapolis on Wednesday night.
Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who represents the district, told the rioters, “Our anger is just. Our anger is warranted.”
Apparently referencing the huge destruction of property, Omar added, “We can rebuild, but we cannot bring back lives.”
It wasn’t until 20 minutes later–after Omar received a substantial wave of backlash for fanning the flames–that she began to change her tune.
Omar quickly wrote, “We should and must protest peacefully. But let us end the cycle of violence now.”
The riots began after the death of George Floyd, who was killed in police custody. A chilling video shows a police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck.
Despite the far-left’s apparent support for violence and destruction that followed, the outrage to Floyd’s death was bipartisan.
President Donald Trump himself responded on Wednesday night, saying that he had directed the FBI and the Department of Justice to investigate Floyd’s death.
“At my request, the FBI and the Department of Justice are already well into an investigation as to the very sad and tragic death in Minnesota of George Floyd,” Trump wrote, via Twitter. “I have asked for this investigation to be expedited and greatly appreciate all of the work done by local law enforcement. My heart goes out to George’s family and friends. Justice will be served!”
