A player for the Indianapolis Colts was killed on Super Bowl Sunday–after an alleged drunk driving illegal alien crashed into his car.
Edwin Jackson, 26, who had been a linebacker for the last two seasons with the Colts, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, Jackson was standing near a stopped vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 70 at around 4am on Sunday. Jackson had been riding in an Uber driven by Jeffrey Monroe, 54, when they pulled over after Jackson became ill.
Monroe was assisting Jackson by the side of the road when a black Ford F-150 drove into the shoulder and killed both men.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Alex Cabrera Gonsales, 37, was “intoxicated and was driving without a license,” according to police. Gonsales is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, who was already facing criminal charges and a deportation detainer by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
After striking Monroe and Jackson, Gonsales attempted to flee on food, but was apprehended soon after.
If convicted in the deaths of Monroe and Jackson, Gonsales will face jail time and, if freed, deportation back to his native Mexico.
