Now Black Lives Matter is even turning on other liberals.
This week, a Black Lives Matter student group shut down an event hosted by the liberal ACLU—and declared that “liberalism is white supremacy.”
The event, which was hosted by the ACLU at the College of William & Mary, was called “Students and the First Amendment.”
In a video that the Black Lives Matter protesters posted to Facebook after the fact, the students stormed the stage after the lecture began.
The Black Lives Matter students then chanted, drowning out the speaker, for nearly twenty minutes, using phrases like, “ACLU, you protect Hitler too,” “the oppressed are not impressed,” and “shame, shame, shame.”
Even more startlingly, the students then moved into anti-American, anti-freedom chants: “The revolution will not uphold the Constitution,” and “Liberalism is white supremacy.”
After twenty minutes, the event organizers decided to end the lecture.
The protest was apparently a statement against the ACLU’s decision to defend the white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August, which spurred violence and rioting. The ACLU had defended the white supremacists’ right to free speech, representing them when the mayor of Charlottesville sought to relocate the protest to a more secluded park.
William & Mary’s administration hit back against the Black Lives Matter protesters—admonishing the Black Lives Matter student group for stifling debate.
“Silencing certain voices in order to advance the cause of others is not acceptable in our community,” read the statement. They added, “William & Mary must be a campus that welcomes difficult conversations, honest debate and civil dialogue.”
